I, Franklin Dale Murdock, was born December 15th 1920 in Salt Lake City, Utah. I was the fourth of five boys and one girl. I graduated from West High School with the class of 1939. Married in September 1941 to Nora Ostrander, an identical twin and our son Robert Dale was born Aug 11, 1942.
Rather than being drafted, I voluntarily entered the U.S. Navy early in 1944. Spent one year in intensive schooling studying radio and radar electronics and served on two different surface vessels before being discharged early in 1946. After military service, I went to work for the Douglas Aircraft Co. as a technician in the study of radio energy propagation and development of flush mounted antennae. While employed, attended extension courses sponsored by UCLA. And attended refreshing courses at a local college. I become general foreman of all engineering research and development laboratories before accepting a position of design project engineer for electronics and weapons systems for the A4 SKYHAWK airplane used by our Marines, U.S. Navy and many foreign countries. I retired after 34 and1/2 years and after the last of the A4 SKYHAWKS had been delivered.
